Government Ministers not in favour of solar developments ruining countryside

"Solar - but not at any cost, not in any place......not if it rides roughshod over the views of communities"  So said Greg Barker, Minister for Energy and Climate Change, in speech on 25 April 2013 to the Solar PV industry.  He followed this by saying "We must be thoughtful, sensitive to public opinion and mindful of the wider environmental and visual impacts."

The Home Office minister, Jeremy Browne has agreed, warning that "Once planning permission has been granted for these hideous constructions, the original gentle countryside will be lost forever”.

"The views of local people must be listened to when making planning decisions. Meeting Britain’s energy needs should not be used to justify the wrong development in the wrong location." - Eric Pickles, Local Government Secretary, 29 July 2013.

Gregory Barker, speaking to the Solar Energy UK conference, Birmingham, on 8th October 2013, where he set out the vision for growth of UK solar PV, stated:

"I will not allow solar developers to grow rich on public subsidy from mega-arrays that scar our countryside."
