Government Ministers not in favour of solar developments ruining countryside

"Solar - but not at any cost, not in any place......not if it rides roughshod over the views of communities"  So said Greg Barker, Minister for Energy and Climate Change, in speech on 25 April 2013 to the Solar PV industry.  He followed this by saying "We must be thoughtful, sensitive to public opinion and mindful of the wider environmental and visual impacts."

The Home Office minister, Jeremy Browne has agreed, warning that "Once planning permission has been granted for these hideous constructions, the original gentle countryside will be lost forever”.

"The views of local people must be listened to when making planning decisions. Meeting Britain’s energy needs should not be used to justify the wrong development in the wrong location." - Eric Pickles, Local Government Secretary, 29 July 2013.

Gregory Barker, speaking to the Solar Energy UK conference, Birmingham, on 8th October 2013, where he set out the vision for growth of UK solar PV, stated:

"I will not allow solar developers to grow rich on public subsidy from mega-arrays that scar our countryside."

Access the Long Hill solar farm planning application on the CDC website

It is possible to view the planning application on the Cherwell District Council website.

Go to http://www.publicaccess.cherwell.gov.uk/online-applications/ and enter the reference number 13/01133/F to access the information.

If you find yourself on the CDC general website (http://www.cherwell.gov.uk/index.cfm if the above link does not work for you), click on [Planning], [View/comment on planning application], [To view a planning application click here] and enter the above reference number.

On this website you will find items such as the planning application and details about it, letters of objection, and a map of the area. To read the planning documents and all letters written to the council both for and against the solar farm letters of objection, click on the [Documents] tab. Page 1 will always show the most recent documents; to view any of the planning documents, including the Application Form and Certificates, Landscape & Visual Assessment, and the Location Plan, go to the last page.

If you haven't yet written a letter of objection and would like to, you will need to register and log in which takes no time at all. Every letter will make a difference. It doesn't need to be long or full of in-depth research, simply make your opinion heard.  You can also still write a letter - the deadline for both letter and email is 31st October.

The address for the letter is:
For the attention of Graham Wyatt, Planning Officer,
Cherwell District Council
Bodicote House

EASEAL in the Banbury Guardian

Recently the Banbury Guardian ran an article on the solar farm and spoke to some of us who object to it.
The plan has also raised fears of an industrial development on the edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
